Named the ‘Coolest Place on the Planet by National Geographic Traveller  Donegal enjoys the most inspiring natural landscapes along what has become Ireland’s most famous route – the ‘Wild Atlantic Way.’

And we are proud to announce that Failte Ireland, the nation’s leading tourism agency, has agreed to host a special multimedia presentation focusing on this wild and wondrous journey along Ireland’s zigzagging shoreline exclusively for participants at the March travel retreat.

In addition, one of the organisation’s leading experts will answer participants’ questions about why the region possesses such mesmerizing magic.

Stretching 2,500 kilometers from Ireland’s southwest corner to the farthest northwest coast, the Way, as it’s known, offers sensational scenery, both rugged and remote, peppered with ancient megalithic tombs, glacial valleys, soaring cliffs, lush woodland and a seemingly endless series of soft, silky beaches.

Within it, Donegal is unique in that it cradles one of Ireland’s richest store of Celtic legends and intriguing faery folklore. And we at Ireland Writing Retreat are lucky to be located along one of the most enchanted parts of the Way and are happy to share our experiences with those who have registered for the first-ever Travel Writing Retreat on the Wild Atlantic Way, in the heart of Donegal.

Here among Ireland’s northernmost headlands, 11 lighthouses shine out across the sea, illuminating a place where journeys both physical and spiritual begin, where bracing sea air revives minds and expands personal horizons, a place where stories are told, adventures shared and spirits soar.

The sweeping vistas of Donegal encompass towering mountains, including the dramatic white face of An tEaragail Mountain (Mount Errigal), and seascapes from Cnoc Fola (Bloody Foreland) to Tory, Gola and Inishbofin Islands.

In this special screening event, participants will enjoy seeing some spectacular scenery ranging from the sheer granite walls of some of Europe’s highest sea cliffs, at Sliabh Liag (Slieve League), to the Northern Lights dancing in clear skies, to the exhilarating sight of seabirds gathering in great estuaries en route to far-flung places across the globe.

If you or your artist friends are interested in renting a summer/autumn retreat for next year, we also have this opportunity:
